Opening Speaker: Governor Jack Markell, "My Cross Country Ride for a Cause"
Governor Markell will kick off National Philanthropy Day with an inspiring talk appropriately titled "My Cross Country Ride for a Cause". Governor Markell will share more about his cross country bike ride and how his trip was designed to draw attention to physical fitness and community health while raising money for Motivate the First State. Governor Markell Bio:
Jack Markell served from 2009-2017 as the Governor of Delaware. During his tenure, Delaware emerged from the great recession with the strongest job growth in the region and among the best private sector wage growth in the country. Mr. Markell led significant investments in improved early childhood education, language immersion programs, heightened college access for low-income students and some of the most aggressive workforce development efforts in the country. Previously, Mr. Markell served as Delaware's State Treasurer.
Prior to public service, Mr. Markell helped lead the wireless technology revolution as the 13th employee at Nextel (a name he coined), where he served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. He also worked at Comcast Corporation and McKinsey and Company. Mr. Markell serves on the National Board of Directors of Jobs for America's Graduates and as a trustee of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Mr. Markell was born in 1960 in Newark, Delaware. He earned an undergraduate degree from Brown University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Mr. Markell is a Henry Crown Fellow and a Rodel Fellow at the Aspen Institute. He and his wife, Carla, reside in Wilmington. Their two children, Molly and Michael, are in their 20's.

Ms. Ryerson, President of the AARP Foundation is our esteemed Keynote Speaker and she will discuss the need for "Growing Resources in a New Political Reality". We are very excited to welcome her to 2017 National Philanthropy Day.
Ms. Ryerson Bio:
A bold, disciplined and collaborative leader, she sets the Foundation’s strategic direction and steers its efforts to realize a country free of poverty where no older person feels vulnerable. Since she took the helm, the foundation has implemented pioneering initiatives, explored new avenues for collaboration, and secured unprecedented funding to support programs and services that truly change lives. Ms. Ryerson has spearheaded innovative partnerships with other organizations to create and advance effective solutions that help vulnerable older adults meet their basic needs. Before joining the foundation, she served as the president and CEO of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.
